SoftRescue reviews.
SoftRescue is not like your average Windows software. It collects the original installer data from your old computer and compresses it into an archive file. If the data on your old computer is in some form corrupted or damaged, the data will still be corrupted and damaged when deployed on your new computer. We recommend a registry and hard drive scan on your old computer before running SoftRescue. It is also crucial that you turn off your anti-virus software when you use SoftRescue. Anti-virus software can delete or quarantine files from the archive file and causing an unsuccessful transfer.
We struggle to inform our users about the above mentioned fall-pits, but reviews around the web confirms that not all users read our first run information window in SoftRescue. This has caused some users to encounter some problems and therefore they have written reviews that wrongly states that SoftRescue does not work in general. SoftRescue WILL work as described if you follow our instructions. Only if you’re old computer is too damaged, it won’t work very well.
There are also many happy users that have written their reviews. Here you can see a small collection of such reviews from two major websites:

Overall I was happy with the product. It was unable to transfer 2 of my 22 applications, but that falls with in the 80-90% range they say they can transfer.
They need to work on their user guide and add more information. I had to contact Tech Support to ask some things that should have been covered in there. I will say, that they were responsive at answering my email questions.
Would also be nice to have a wizard to step you through the process. Once I figured out what to do it worked like they said. John Duenas

It worked as promised – far better than PCmover. I have been looking for utilities like this for years, and just found a few of them. Microsoft has permanently discontinued the integration of the software migration wizard in Vista - I have tried the beta version, and it was terrible. This one is by miles the best one I have tried...and yes; I actually got to the point of moving before I posted my review. Chris

This software does not deserve less then EXELENT!!
I have a one year old HP laptop that badly needed a fresh Vista installation. It was so full of crap that it just barely managed to run notepad, so I went for Soft Rescue Pro version 1.2.2 to take care of the software and game reinstallation for me. The transfer included about 20 programs and 3 games. I was amazed that every single software and game worked perfect on the reinstalled OS, and some of them kept all the settings and configurations that I had spent a lot of time setting up! There were one or two shortcuts that I had to link up again after the transfer, but that was the only hiccup. I didn’t spend more than 5 minutes on the whole thing, and it also transferred all the license keys for the programs and games. If previous versions didn’t work that god, it does now. This one gets my recommendation.
I had to do a few workarounds for a couple of the programs, but that’s not bad since I transferred about 130 software and games. If you think this software can do magic for $49.95 you should look for something else. SoftRescue is not perfect, but it does the majority of the reinstallation job for you much better than any other transfer tool I have tried. Mitcha

Easy to use and worked well, August 10, 2009
SoftRescue worked well for transferring my old software to my new computer. It was really easy to use. All of my software and data was moved to my new PC and seems to work fine. I only had 1 (very old) application that didn't work, but I don't think it was SoftRescue's fault...I think the old software just isn't compatible with Vista. I plan on using it again when Windows 7 is released. Dakota D
